《鴨子農(nóng)夫》

There once was a duck who had the bad luck to live with a lazy old farmer.

從前，有只倒霉的鴨子，和一個(gè)大懶蟲(chóng)農(nóng)夫生活在一起。

The duck did the work. The farmer stayed all day in bed.

鴨子要干所有的活，農(nóng)夫只管整天賴在床上。

The duck fetched he cow from the field.

鴨子到地里把牛牽回來(lái)。

"How goes the work?" called the farmer.

農(nóng)夫嚷嚷：“活兒干的怎么樣啦?”

The duck answered, "Quack!"

鴨子回答：“嘎嘎!”

The duck brought the sheep from the hill.

鴨子到山上把羊馱回來(lái)。

"How goes the work?" called the farmer.

農(nóng)夫嚷嚷：“活兒干的怎么樣啦?”

The duck answered, "Quack!"

鴨子回答：“嘎嘎!”

The duck put the hens in their house.

鴨子把雞趕回雞舍。

"How goes the work?" called the farmer.

農(nóng)夫嚷嚷：“活兒干的怎么樣啦?”

The duck answered, "Quack!"

鴨子回答：“嘎嘎!”

The farmer got fat through staying in bed and the poor duck got fed up with working all day.

農(nóng)夫從早到晚躺在床上，胖得不成樣子。鴨子每日沒(méi)夜辛苦干活，累得快要崩潰了。

"How goes the work?"

“活兒干的怎么樣啦?”

"Quack!"

“嘎嘎!”

…………

…………

The poor duck was sleepy and weepy and tired.

可憐的鴨子，又困，又累，又傷心。

The hens and the cow and the sheep got very upset. They loved the duck.

牛羊和雞很愛(ài)鴨子，他們都為朋友感到難過(guò)。

So they held a meeting under the moon and they made a plan for the morning.

于是大家趁著月色，精心安排起第二天一早的行動(dòng)。

"Moo!" said the cow.

“哞哞!”牛說(shuō)。

"Baa!" said the sheep.

“咩咩!”羊說(shuō)。

"Cluck!" said the hens.

“咕咕!”雞說(shuō)。

And that was the plan!

好，就這么定了!

It was just before dawn and the farmyard was still.

天還沒(méi)亮，農(nóng)場(chǎng)靜悄悄。

Through the back door and into the house crept the cow and the sheep and the hens.

牛、羊和雞從后門(mén)偷偷溜進(jìn)農(nóng)夫的房子。

They stole down the hall. They creaked up the stairs.

大家輕手輕腳進(jìn)了走廊，踩得樓梯吱吱響。

They squeezed under the bed of the farmer and wriggled about.

他們一起擠到農(nóng)夫的床下，使勁往上頂啊頂床開(kāi)始搖晃。

The bed started to rock and the farmer woke up, and he called, "How goes the work?" and...

床開(kāi)始搖晃，農(nóng)夫被驚醒，又嚷嚷起來(lái)：“活兒干得怎...”

They lifted his bed and he started to shout, and they banged and they bounced the old farmer about and about and about, right out of the bed...

大家拱起來(lái)，農(nóng)夫叫嚷著。大家擠擠撞撞把床掀，農(nóng)夫轱轆轱轆滾下來(lái)，重重地摔到了地板上。

He fled with the cow and the sheep and the hens mooing and baaing and clucking around him.

農(nóng)夫拔腿就跑，牛、羊和雞緊追不舍。

"Moo!"“哞哞!”

"Baa!"“咩咩!”

"Cluck!"“咕咕!”

Down the lane..."Moo!"

一直追到小路上...“哞哞!”

through the fields..."Baa!"

穿過(guò)田野...“咩咩!”

over the hill..."Cluck!"

翻過(guò)小山...“咕咕!”

and he never came back.

農(nóng)夫再也沒(méi)有回來(lái)過(guò)...

The duck awoke and waddled wearily into the yard expecting to hear, "How goes the work?"

清晨，鴨子疲憊不堪地晃進(jìn)院子里，等著聽(tīng)那句——“活兒干得怎么樣啦?”

But nobody spoke!

咦，竟然沒(méi)有人說(shuō)話!

Then the cow and the sheep and the hens came back.

牛、羊和雞回來(lái)了。

"Quack?" asked the duck.

“嘎嘎?”鴨子問(wèn)。

"Moo!" said the cow.

“哞哞!”牛說(shuō)。

"Baa!" said the sheep.

“咩咩!”羊說(shuō)。

"Cluck!" said the hens.

“咕咕!”雞說(shuō)。

Which told the duck the whole story.

大家把事情的經(jīng)過(guò)告訴了鴨子。

Then mooing and baaing and clucking and quacking they all set to work on their farm.

從此以后，大家都在農(nóng)場(chǎng)一起工作，農(nóng)場(chǎng)里充滿歡樂(lè)。
